Electromechanica designed an fabricated a custom chuck and contact system for a major photovoltaics manufacturer. This system fixtures silicon solar cells during test. The chuck features a liquid heat exchanger to provide thermal management of the chuck face during high energy testing. An innovative contact bar system was designed to provide low resistance connection to the front side of the cell while keeping a low profile to eliminate shading. The cell under test is retained by an array of vacuum cups embedded in the chuck. A pneumatic actuation system operates the top contact frame.
